Back From the Break, New Video Upload Site, New Screenshot Site, Tons of New
Videos, Tons of Awesome Upcoming Shows, Thanks
It has
been nearly two months since my last update and once again I apologize. Monday
is my final day of classes as I graduate from my first year of college. It is
crazy to think I started this whole project back when I wasn't even halfway
through my sophomore year of high school. What this all means to you is that I
have more time now to devote to Eat Tapes. I'll be going to more shows, updating
more frequently, and will get your orders out for DVDs and stuff quicker (by the
way, thanks to everyone who has ordered videos in the past few months. I'm up to
date now and appreciate everyone for hanging in there as I balanced school work
and my website.).
To kick off the list of good news, I have finally got around to beginning my
uploading endeavors on a new website.
Veoh.com seemed to have the best solutions
to all of my problems (high quality, able to download, quick streaming). For a
mildly comprehensive guide to viewing my videos on Veoh, check out the
instructional site I created,
here. I will slowly be uploading videos and
updating the video list with links to their new locations so please bear with me
as I begin this tedious transfer.
Next, there is a new method for looking at screenshots.
The old slideshow style was nice looking but not very efficient. There was no
way to view the images in thumbnails, search the collection, comment on
pictures, save them easily, etc... Well now you can! I started a
Flickr account.
Flickr isn't anything new so I don't really have to go in depth with explaining
everything but I am very happy with the new digs, if you will, and I hope you
like them too. Now you can easily browse all screenshots, comment on photos
("Hey I was there!" type of thing), or add me as a friend or whatever you crazy
Flickr users like to do.
There obviously have been a lot of videos since the
last update so check the video page for the new additions. You can look forward
to those new videos being uploaded to Veoh before the older ones.
Also, there are some great shows already lined up for
the summer so check out the Upcoming Show list to see them.
And lastly, thanks so much for the support over these
past few months with limited updates. I've been receiving and answering a lot of
nice emails and it is always very encouraging.

Catching Up, Video List Update, Bad News
Hey everyone. It may seem like I am giving up on this website with
infrequent updates and a lack of videos but that couldn't be further from the
truth. I am very much still involved with Eat Tapes and am really sorry I
haven't been back to be in touch in a while. I have been busily looking for a
house for the past month and handed in the applications for it today. It has
been a very hectic time but hopefully it will all pay off because this house is
beautiful.
Now, I have
updated the video list with new videos of some awesome shows such as No Age and
St. Vincent. This is also my 3rd anniversary month so I plan on doing something
special for that as well so stay tuned.
Sadly, there
is some VERY bad news. Out of no where, the website
Stage 6 has
thrown in the towel and is no longer available. This means the source I have
been using to upload my videos for about a year now is gone and so are the
videos. I have no idea where I am going to put my videos. If anyone has any
suggestions please feel free to throw them my way. I am looking now towards
Veoh.com but even that doesn't come close to how perfect Stage 6 was.

Back in Action, New "About Me" Video, Video List Updated, People Party News
Well I'm real sorry I haven't updated for nearly a month.
My computer has slowly been dying out on me until I finally reformatted and
started over again. I've also been busy with other aspects of my life like
riding bikes, sewing clothes, and reading books. But February is upon us
which means more shows and more videos coming up.
To start off with the news, I have a video that I just made
on the About
page of the site. There have always been a lot of questions about Eat Tapes
so I figured I would make a short video to depict who I am, what I do, and
how I do it. There are a lot of some of my best video clips in there as well
as some video of the back end of Eat Tapes so it might be fun to check out.
The Video List has been updated with artists such as James
Blackshaw and Wzt Hearts.
Lastly, Brian of
Leg Up! Management has emailed me more
People Party party press from Exclaim! magazine found here:

Also, the recent press has moved me to redesign the People Party website slightly to make it more accessible and easy to navigate now that I don't need a lot of that stuff.

Moved Back Home, Updated Video List, Updated Screenshots, Updated Featured
Video, More to Come
Hey, I just moved back to the apartment in the city yesterday and am still sort of recovering from all of the moving. But now that I'm settled in, I had a chance to update a few things around the site such as the Video List, Screenshot page, and the Featured Video (which I will be adding 2-3 more videos to in the coming week.) I'm really happy about this Featured Video and hope that you like it too. The "more too come" is a small video I've been working on for the past few weeks or so. I'm trying hard to finish it but it is a bit laborious. Hopefully I'll have it done before school starts back up on the 22nd.
Wednesday/January 2, 2008:
Happy holidays and welcome to the new year. As you sober up and begin to check every other website on the internet you will probably be hearing the same old story, "We have big plans for this new year!!1" Well I hate to sound cliché but I do too. There are a lot of things planned as we draw closer to Eattapes's 3rd Anniversary (!!) I'll have something big planned for the month of March to celebrate so you can count on that. As I was saying... I have some big things planned for this year including my special access filming at the Philadelphia Popped Festival, a redesign of the R5 website integrating my videos, a few more interviews lined up, new equipment, and so far an awesome line-up of shows in the coming months.
Those of you who have seen some of my more recent videos have probably witnessed the audio cutting out at times. This was due to my Sony Mic's wire beginning to fray. I've used that microphone since day one and it has definitely provided a solid tour of duty. That damn thing has been pulled, thrown, beaten, spilled on, spit on, probably bled on, as well as a whole slew of other things which it had to encounter over the course of my filming and yet it continued to provide the best quality I could hope for from a mic of that price. I loved that thing but must move on to prevent this from turning into too much of a memoir for my mic. I will introduce to you my new, beautiful microphone: The Rode VideoMic.

Slightly more expensive than the previous mic and 60% more serious looking, this microphone looks like it will certainly be able to fill the shoes of the old mic. I have tested it out slightly on my girlfriend's drums (my music equipment is back in the city as I stay at my parent's house for winter break) and all signs point to :). The first show will probably be the Paint it Black record release matinee this weekend at the Church. And for those of you who are wondering what my old mic eating shit sounds like, feel free to check out the new Dillinger Escape Plan video once I post it.
Continuing the theme of awesome updates: the slow tour month of December is officially over and things are kicking into gear almost instantly starting this weekend with shows like the aforementioned Paint it Black record release show (which will be something for the history books I'm sure) and the last show at a supposedly awesome art space in Lancaster featuring the wonderful Beach House and a new muse I just heard, High Places. Philly's all-around good guy Herbie will be driving yours truly and I am very grateful.
There are a bunch of updates that you can check out including: Equipment, Screenshots, Upcoming Show List, and Show List.
A huge Featured Video update will hopefully be coming tomorrow to make up for the missing December one. And I think that is all. I hope everyone had a safe holiday and I look forward to seeing a lot of you guys at shows and talking to some distant friends online in the coming year. Take care.
Wednesday/December 5, 2007:
First of all, the 34th St. paper released the article they did on me this past week. I'm really happy with how it turned out (I don't look like that big of a moron!) click the article below to see it in full, readable size.
I updated the video list a little while ago. In any case I'll be uploading it again real soon with the Iron Lung and Hatred Surge show (which was real good).
There is a new Vimeo video up with BLACK DICE which were amazing. Check out their show on Stage 6 where they kill it with their Load Blown material.
I guess I should also apologize for those who have ordered DVDs etc from me. I've been really busy since it is the end of the semester but good news is that in a week I will be competely finished for winter break and I will literally be focusing ALL of my efforts on EATTAPES and hopefully orders will be filled the day of when I'm on break.
Tuesday/November 27, 2007:
Another long break in between updates. You can tell the semester is winding to a close and the teachers are piling it on. I've been working through a lot of tapes and footage from the past two weeks or so, getting everything together and organizing it all. That newspaper interview on EATTAPES will be released this Thursday. The photographer was over my house tonight taking pictures of me fake-editing videos. We'll see how this turns out and how much of a fool I look like. ha
I updated the video list with some awesome new videos including killer performances by OM, Black Dice, and Meg Baird.
New screenshots are up as well.
Thursday/November 15, 2007:
Sorry it has been a little while since the last update. I have been really busy with school and this weekend looks like its going to be a mess with three shows and a ton of homework. Oh well. Anyway, the Video List has been updated with a bunch of shows that I went to and also some more uploaded videos attached to previously listed shows. Also, there is finally a new Featured Video of the month. It is Tim Kaiser's performance at Big Jar Books and is really fascinating. I hope you enjoy it. Lastly, there is a new Vimeo video up: Menomena.
Monday/November 5, 2007:
Video list updated yet again with a few more recent shows.
New screenshots are up from various new videos.
I uploaded a new video to Vimeo over the weekend: Damo Suzuki's Network ft. Bardo Pond
And lastly, thanks so much to everyone who has been donating to help me get my new microphone. I'm still in need of a lot more money but I wanted to say I do appreciate everyone's help thus far.
Friday/November 2, 2007:
New screenshot from The War on Drugs is up. Great dudes/great show.
New Calendar is up for November!
And a new featured video is coming up soon. I didn't forget about this month, don't worry.
Thursday/November 1, 2007:
October is finally over and was my busiest month ever. I went to 19 shows and filmed damn near all of them. I'm exhausted and hopefully things will begin to wind down. Actually, not really. As I look at my calendar I have 10 November ones already planned out. They'll be posted soon.
The screenshot page has been updated with two major shows: The Damo Suzuki Network as well as the Floorpunch reunion.
Other good news is that one of my interviews is going to be conducted tomorrow which I'm real excited about. I'll let you all know how it goes and when it will be released. It should be almost entirely embarrassing and hilarious. Also, Philly-blog-awesomeness Fun Vampires contacted me and want to do a interview with me as well. More details on that to come.
Also video list updated with a bunch of new videos.
Maybe I'll see someone at Avail/The Thermals either today or tomorrow.
Sunday/October 28, 2007:
Hey I hope everyone is well. I have the hugely awesome Damo Suzuki Network's video which I will be posting soon. And today I have an all day show seeing the reunion of FLOORPUNCH twice as well as some other big names such as Blacklisted, Shipwreck, Cold World, etc..
But that isn't why I'm updating today. I'm reaching out for some monetary help from everyone I've helped out with videos and from people who continue to view my videos. A week or so ago my Sony Mic which I have been using since day one started to kick the bucket. The wire is beginning to fray and the audio has been kicking out on some of my past videos. I really can't film much longer not knowing whether the audio is being properly recorded or not. Thus, I am looking for a new mic. I don't have a job right now since there is no time between college and this hobby so the only way I can really save money is by not buying groceries and although I am doing that to an extent, it is a slow process. I have almost $100 saved but am going to need a few hundred more in order to get the next step in recording quality. So I now ask that if anyone is feeling generous enough to help with the cost to please donate, any amount, to my Paypal account. It is hugely appreciated and every bit counts. I know a lot of traffic comes to my site now and if almost everyone was able to give a little bit I would have this money in no time. I will be able to purchase the new mic and we can all have better recordings and won't have to deal with my audio cutting out every now and then.
I want to thank everyone for their generosity (as always) and hope you take care.
Thursday/October 25, 2007:
Today I added a new feature which will hopefully be helpful to people looking for my videos around the internet and I'll need your help with it. You are now able to find a video of any band I have online by simply clicking on the respective band's name on the list. For example:
Lets say you wanted to see if the Comets on Fire video is anywhere online. You would simply find their name in my video list
Comets on Fire Live @ The First Unitarian Church - Philadelphia ,PA [08.31.06]
+~,MiniDv,W,SP,16,S,.divx,720x480,<The "<" at the end of its description denotes that it does in fact have a video and to view it all you have to do is click on the band's name. Or if you just want to browse and see what videos I do have up, all you have to do is hit "Control + F" and search for "<" which will bring guide you through all of the band's videos. This is where I need your help: If anyone knows where one of my full videos is online, could you please send me an email (video@eattapes.com) and send me the link so I can add it to the site.
A new screenshot is up from The Magik Markers show as well as a new Vimeo video of them.
Tonight is Damo Suzuki of Can and I'm so stoked. Video definitely shortly afterwards!
Tuesday/October 23, 2007:
Another piece of cool news is that the new Philly based music blog, The Walrus, contacted me and we are now going to be showing some of my videos through their website over at their website. More updates as we get underway on the project.
Also I added a ton of awesome new screenshots over at the site. Continue to check them for stills from my latest videos.
My video list has been updated - Caribou, Beach Hosue, Jesu, Torche, Sic Alps, Jack Rose, etc..
Wednesday/October 17, 2007:
Since I will be giving some of my videos to Pitchfork I began uploading my videos to a site called Vimeo. I will be uploading the videos as a .mpg format and Vimeo converts all of the videos to Flash so everyone will be able to see them instead of downloading the Divx codec. Mark of Pitchfork wrote up a brief article on my Caribou video. And I also uploaded a song from the Beach House show from this past Sunday. I will be adding excerpt videos to Vimeo constantly as they come in. I wouldn't count on too many from the back catalog being uploaded so please don't request any. Anyway, enjoy!
